Saturday Sky and Stuff

Such an absolutely stunning day today!

I started the day early this morning sitting in the spare room knitting with my friend Lise. OK, not really, but it kind of felt like it. Lise has the best knitting podcast and talks just like you're sitting there with her and knitting together.

Then because the weather was so nice I grabbed the leash and the dog and we went for a walk, where unfortunately I proceeded to "break" my dog. I didn't think we went that far, but he is so sore this evening and I feel so terrible about it. I guess it's been a long, lazy winter for the poor thing and I need to take it a little more slowly with him.

The rest of the day has been a hodge podge of activity. Lots of yard work just to be outside. And since I have a large dog there is some time spent each week out there cleaning his mess. It never fails to tickle me though to realize what activity I'm doing and singing praise songs at the same time. I was plugging in the ipod and ready to go outside when Keith asked what I was going to do. I told him that I was going to be outside praising Jesus and picking up dog poop! Now really, I do know it might sound bad to say that, but honestly if you could just see me out there singing and dancing to The Twenty First Time with a pooper scooper in my hand you'd see the humor here! :)

I did take a few breaks though just to sit outside and knit. The weather was so perfect and just begged to be taken advantage of. This is the beginning of a scarf I'm making. One of the girls I work with has a project at her church each Christmas where they fill backpacks for the homeless people in our city. She pledged to the church that she and her fellow knitters would donate a handknit scarf and/or hat for each backpack. I figure I better get started! :) I'm loving how this one is turning out and it's probably the softest thing in the world.

Saturdy Sky 081107

I am most definitely a morning person. The peace and sounds of morning are the best time of the day.
Today I get to go to garage sales with Loni and Brooklyn and I can't wait. Loni and I love going and of course took a brief hiatus for the birth of the baby. But today we decided to try again for a few. I just checked my little weather forecast thingy and it's supposed to reach 105 degrees today, so we won't have our usual long list of prospects to hit today. Loni did the research and found some sales that listed some things we're interested in and I printed maps last night (well, since it was about 1:00 am I suppose that was really also this morning).
We don't have a set time to go - we decided to just let Brooklyn decide. So I'm enjoying my coffee and knitting on a baby blanket for a friend. I love the peace of early morning and decided to run outside and document the rising sun. I'm sure I looked a sight if anybody peaked into my backyard and saw me standing in my nightgown with a camera pointed at the sky!
So we'll see what little Brooklyn says about saling. Grandpa has already said we can bring her back by and he'll take care of her if she decides she's not interested. I love that man.

Saturday Sky

It just boggles the mind to think about all the rain we've had lately. This weekend was supposed to be clear and beautiful and really for the most part it was.

On the way back to James and Loni's house from the shower a brief rainstorm popped up again though. I heard on the news tonight that this brief shower produced another inch of rain!

It really has been a "feast or famine" type of situation with the rain lately....

Saturday Sky 022407

Very, very strange afternoon today. This was taken about 2:00 - middle of the day! The winds were gusting to 55 mph (just watched the news) and the dust and dirt in the sky was just unreal. When driving home during this we noticed many houses in our area with shingles missing, downed tree limbs, etc. The news also said that American Airlines alone cancelled over 500 flights to and from DFW today. You could even taste the grit in your teeth. Hopefully we won't be seeing this sort of thing again any time soon!

Arctic Blast

Today has been COLD here in the Dallas area! The news station has even made a graphic announcing the Arctic Winter Blast or Ice Storm depending on which channel you are watching. So far it's not too bad, but they are saying that overnight is when the really big ice storm will hit.

So I have spent the day knitting, doing laundry and baking. There is something about really cold weather that makes a woman want to bake! Of course I'll have pictures and links shortly. :) We also made a big pot of chili and I enjoyed a frito pie for dinner tonight. All of these things seem to herald in the winter in my mind.
