4 Wheelin' is Not For Sissies.....

So many different ideas of what to put for the title of this post, but really I think the photo above speaks for itself. We had such a wonderful time out 4 wheelin'.....up until the point that we discovered the dropoff in the pond. And no matter how good your 4 wheel drive is it can be a real challenge to try and drive through the oatmeal like substance that sits on the bottom of a new pond after over a week of rain.

Really, we were driving along the edge and you could even see the bottom when suddenly - out of nowhere - we went over a submerged cliff. And I'm here to tell you that the water level can rise very fast when you don't particularly want it to.

We were fortunate to find a guy riding a large atv with a winch to pull us out. He's from Minnesota and I think he was kind of tickled to pull us out as it was his "first time to pull somebody out of a pond." And equally fortunate to have a plethora of advice from many a person. The best was when we were told "why, I don't think I woulda drove through a pond when you don't know how deep it is". Really.

One thing's for sure though - I have not had so many gut wrenching belly laughs since I don't know how long. Because if you can't laugh at yourself, who can you laugh at?

Good times.....

Indy How I Love Thee!

Throwing in a random thought here because my blog titled reminded me of it. Yes we did go on opening weekend to see the new Indiana Jones movie and yes I thoroughly enjoyed it. When they first played the famous theme music I couldn't help but smile and settle in to enjoy the ride.

Now on to the real reason for the title - last night was the Bombardier Learjet 550 at Texas Motor Speedway and we had a blast. Love this picture of Keith and Lynne' that I took right after we got there. :) None of us had ever been to an Indy race before and it was absolutely mind blowing how fast these cars go.

But before the race we had another thrill watching Captain Robbie Knievel jumping over 21 Hummers and setting a new world record. I know there's probably some of you rolling you eyes abot now, but it was honestly rather a thrilling thing to watch.

We've been to many Nascar races out at TMS and one of the things that was really cool about the Indy race was that during driver introductions the drivers walk down THROUGH THE STANDS and out to their cars! This is how close we were to E.J. Viso and that was awesome. And after the race they actually open the fence and let all the fans down in the pit/garage area to walk around and see the cars. Unfortunately it was already very late and Lynne' had to be at work early this morning, so we left. The good part about that is now we've saved something to look forward to next time. :)

And of course, the crowd favorite, Danica Patrick. This was the clearest picture I got of her car and it's during the race as she was going in for a pit stop. Again, these cars go fast and by the time your brain registers that they are in front of you they are already around on the back stretch. Anyway, one thing that struck me about the Danica fans was that there were lots of younger girls that cheered any time she did anything. I wonder if Danica has any idea how much inspiration she is to the Hannah Montana fan base? Lynne' and I got a kick out of watching these young girls jumping and screaming for Danica. :)

I just went back to proofread what I typed and when I looked at the picture of Lynne' and Keith I realized that I hadn't blogged about this event from last weekend. Lynne' went in and got her hair cut off for Locks of Love! Not only am I enormously proud of her for doing this, I really think it's C.U.T.E. on her!

2008 Backyard Roses

"One of the most tragic things I know about human nature is that all of us tend to put off living. We are all dreaming of some magical rose garden over the horizon-instead of enjoying the roses blooming outside our windows today." - Dale Carnegie
We have a tremendous crop of roses in our backyard this year. These roses have the most incredible scent and when you stand next to the bushes in the backyard I swear it carries you away.

Let's Go To Monaville, TX!

Keith and I just got back from a little weekend getaway. The town of Monaville, Texas hosted a Big Bird (Scale) Fly-In and since this happens to be one of Keith's hobbies we headed south. We went as spectators this trip, so no airplanes accompanied us.

The setting was beautiful and quiet and the weather couldn't have been better. I really enjoy watching these planes fly and we were quite impressed with just how big these were. Keith's planes are not nearly this size - note that it took 4 adult men to carry this plane.

Of course, not all flights end as planned. Luckily this was the only victim while we were there. (please note, no pilots were harmed in this crash...)

This plane was quite a crowd pleaser and happened to be one of my favorites - Snoopy and his Red Baron! It looked so funny flying through the air and when it landed the crowd clapped in glee. I think this was the favorite of the children in the crowd.

Sewing and Hobbies

Last night I finally had some time to slow down and just enjoy. I'm working on a "secret project" that I'll be able to post about soon, but I will say that it involves sewing. I haven't had my sewing machine out for quite some time and am enjoying it immensely. The quiet hum of the motor and the rhythmic motion of the needle are very calming. I think I've really missed this.
It also made me think about how I flit from hobby to hobby. The picture of the thread shows I'm still playing with all the settings on my new camera - and enjoying it as well. There are so many things that I really love to do and at least I rarely get bored! My list includes - in no particular order - sewing, photography, knitting, scrapbooking, cross stitching, reading, walking, crocheting - and who knows what the future will find me doing. :)
Speaking of knitting, I got a call last night from the lady that I met in the tornado shelter Friday night. She invited me to their Knit n Nosh, so I'll be going next week for the first time. Isn't it funny how such a good thing can come out of a scary situation?
