WIP Wednesday

I think one of the problems I have with keeping up with and actually finishing some of my projects is that I just have so many things in the works!  I walk into my room in the evening to do *something* and relax and really too often I can’t even remember what I’m working on or ready to do next.  SURELY this will help keep me on my toes!!!

I am seriously in love with this yarn!  I bought it at The Loopy Ewe when mom and I were up there in April for the Spring Fling. We were actually the first group to get to visit the store and oh my word it was like yarn overload – how in the world is a girl supposed to choose among all those fabulous options?  I did pretty good though since I went armed with a list of projects and this was one of the skeins I bought.  It’s Malabrigo (mmmm……) Sock in the Prinavera colorway.  absolutely gorgeous!

It’s going to be a Melody Shawl (though mine will be a scarf) just as soon as I can locate the project that holding my KnitPicks needles hostage!

This will very soon be a DARLING dress for my new American Girl doll!  I just got her and her entire bedroom set last weekend from a friend whose daughter doesn’t play with them.  I am BEYOND thrilled and pictures will be soon.  It will all stay at my house and when B comes to visit I am certain that she and I will have so much fun playing!  And fortunately I still have Lynne’s Samantha doll at the house so that there will be two to play with.  ~ very happy sigh ~

This will soon be what I am hoping will be something to keep me organized with my crafting!  I have some awesome friends that I don’t get to see nearly often enough, so I whined and sniveled via email that maybe we could at least share pictures of our projects. Or better yet post a challenge every now and then so it’s sorta like we’re working together – only apart.  This will be the first challenge project and I’m beyond thrilled with how it looks…in my mind.  Smile

Watermelon Pops

I’ve shared before how much our family loves the Rocket Pops from Kraft every 4th of July.  And here’s a picture of Brooklyn eating one for the first time because Grandma likes to show off her precious granddaughter:

But sometimes you want popsicles on a holiday that doesn’t require red, white and blue and Kraft came to the rescue again.  We found a recipe for Watermelon Pops and they were so cute that we had to try them.  Unfortunately I only had my camera phone with me that weekend, so fill in the blanks with your imagination.  Smile

Watermelon Popsicles

What doesn’t show up very well is that the red layer has mini chocolate chips sprinkled throughout – aka watermelon seeds!  Is that not the cutest thing ever!?!?

WATERMELON POPS
adapted from Kraft Foods

1 cup sugar, divided
1 pkg. (3 oz.) lime jello
2 cups boiling water, divided
Ice cubes
1 cup cold water, divided
1 pkg. (3 oz.) strawberry jello
3 T miniature semi-sweet chocolate chips
1-1/2 cups thawed Cool Whip

Mix1/3 cup sugar and strawberry jello in medium bowl. Add 1 cup boiling water and stir 2 minutes until completely dissolved. Add enough ice to 1/2 cup cold water to measure 3/4 cup. Add to strawberry jello and stir until ice is completely melted.  Pour into 16 (3-oz.) paper/plastic cups. Freeze 20 min. Stir 1/2 tsp. chocolate chips into gelatin in each cup.

Spread a layer of Cool Whip over each popsicle and return to freezer until green jello is ready.

Mix 1/3 cup sugar and lime jello in medium bowl. Add 1 cup boiling water and stir 2 minutes until completely dissolved. Add enough ice to 1/2 cup cold water to measure 3/4 cup. Add to lime jello and  stir until ice is completely melted. Refrigerate 25 minutes.

Pour lime jello over the cool whip layer and insert wooden craft stick  in the center of each cup. Freeze 3 hours or until firm. Remove pops from cups just before serving.

NOTE: We used the smallest size plastic dixie cups for these.  The craft sticks can be found in the craft department of the Big Box Superstore.  To remove the pops from the cup, be careful not to just pull.  Run the cup under warm water for a few seconds and it should just come right out.

KK and B copy

KK, Brooklyn’s cousin, is on the left and Brooklyn on the right.  I think they like them!   Smile

Group Granny Stripe Baby Afghan

Last night was our Mission Crafts Ministry meeting at church - or Knitting With The Church Ladies as I usually call it. LOVE these ladies so much! We craft and laugh and pray - does it get any better than that???

One of the ladies is expecting her first grandbaby, so we wanted to give her a baby afghan from all of us. I found the Granny Stripe afghan pattern on the Attic24 Blog and that was perfect for our needs!

A picture of the yarn pallette we chose - Vanna's Choice Baby using colors that I think of as a bit more modern. Love how they look all jumbled in the cart ready to go. :)

The Beginning of the afghan! I did the two rows of each color, then met one of the gals for dinner and the hand off so that she could do her rows. It is AMAZING how fast this pattern goes - lightning fast crochet!

Here's the blanket as of our meeting last night! I am head over heels in love with the way it's coming out, although I see all of those ends that will have to be woven in and it almost gives me palpitations. ;) Happily, we do actually have a gal that says she enjoys the weaving and she is FAST at it!

Last night as we all did the ooh and ahh over this blanket we made a decision that after giving this to Doris we will start another and always have one in process. We'll probably leave it at the church and then anybody can work on it. This way when our church gets a call from somebody that needs a blanket we will be ready.

A quick note - I have my laptop back and am just tickled pink about the whole thing. Give me a minute please and I'll have all my ducks in a row again and back to posting.

Technical Difficulties....

A quick little note - my laptop is in the hospital. But that's ok...when I got the call last night I thought it was going to be an autopsy report, so hearing that it just needs surgery made me HAPPY! Blog posts will have to be postponed just a smidge longer....hope y'all wait for me! :)
