Handmade Quilt from my Mother-In-Law

SONY DSC

When this quilt was in the “making the blocks” stage I told my mother-in-law how much I loved it.  Little did I know that those words would mean she was going to gift it to me!  She is so precious and I *LOVE* this quilt!

This is a close-up of the blocks.  The flowers are all embroidered by hand, as well as the quilting around them.

I love the borders as well – the bright colors are so cheerful!

I love this quilt and especially love that it was made for me by my mother-in-law.  Unfortunately, since it will go on the bed in the guest room, that’s also where our geriatric cat spends the bulk of his time. And let’s just say that we are very familiar around here with hairballs.  Sad smile  Therefore, I’ve made the decision to not leave the quilt on the bed.  Instead, I’ve now decided that it will go on the bed when we have company and I’ll just shut the door to the room so that the cat can’t get in there.  This quilt is far too beautiful not to be on display.

I have a quilt my grandmother made me years ago. Since we had a cat, I also protected it. I found a wonderful quilt holder that hang on the wall and had a shelf on top. This worked wonderful. This is kinda like the one I had, but was a single one.

I wonder how many hours of love went into that quilt as the quilter thought about how it would be handed down through the generations. What a beautiful heirloom.
